Job summary

Mercyhealth in Illinois seeks an Emergency Department Technician to support the ED team in a fast-paced setting. Responsibilities include EKGs, IV starts, venipunctures, splinting, CPR, and patient transport, with meticulous documentation and supply management.

The role requires teamwork, adaptability, and a commitment to high-quality patient care in urgent situations. Shift pattern offers three 12-hour shifts weekly.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a CNA program or graduate of an ABHES/CAAHEP accredited MA program or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an Emergency Medical Technician program or a Paramedic program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care per routine and standards.
  • Answer call lights promptly and document care.
  • Maintain clean patient environment and supply chain.
  • Process orders, relay messages, and manage calls.
  • Assist ED physicians with procedures and equipment.
  • Perform 12 Lead EKGs, start IVs, venipunctures, and CPR.
  • Transport non-monitored patients to inpatient units.

Job description

Overview:

As an Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech), you will support the healthcare team in delivering timely, high-quality care to patients in a fast-paced emergency setting. You will assist with clinical procedures, including EKGs, IV starts, venipunctures, splinting, CPR, and patient transport, while maintaining accurate documentation, managing supplies, and ensuring a safe and efficient care environment. This role requires strong teamwork, adaptability, and a commitment to exceptional patient care during urgent and emergent situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.

  • Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner

  • Documents care provided according to standards

  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment

  • Maintains supplies, stocking new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.

  • Processes orders in an accurate and timely manner. Answers the telephone and call lights appropriately and provides information or relays messages to patients and staff.

  • Directs visitors to patient's rooms. Maintains medical records of current patients. Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed.

  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.

  • Performs 12 Lead EKGs as directed

  • Starts IV as directed

  • Performs venipunctures as directed

  • Assists ED MDs with intubation by gathering needed equipment

  • Performs CPR and places the Lucas on patients during resuscitations

  • Performs splint applications

  • Assist with chest tube insertions by gathering needed supplies equipment

  • Performs BGMs as directed

  • Transports non-monitored patients to the inpatient units

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Completion of a CNA program

or

Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or graduate of a medical assistant program in a postsecondary school or college that has institutional accreditation by a regional accrediting commission or by a national accrediting organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education

or

Graduate of an Emergency Medical Technician program

or

Graduate of a Paramedic program.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state, or

Certified as a Medical Assistant through the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) or RMA certification through the AMT (American Medical Technologists) or CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through NHA (National Healthcareer Association) or RMA through AAH (American Allied Health) or NCMA Certification through the NCCT that have also completed the education requirements.

Licensed as an EMT-B or EMT-A in applicable state, or

Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state.

Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days

$17.57 - $25.48
