Job summary

Children’s Minnesota seeks pediatric emergency medicine physicians to provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care in our 24/7 pediatric EDs in Minneapolis–St. Paul.

The role includes supervising residents and PEM Fellows, and coordinating with pediatric specialists to deliver comprehensive pediatric care. The ideal candidate holds BE/BC in Pediatrics with PEM fellowship training and is eligible for Minnesota medical licensure.

Qualifications

• Board BE/BC in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics.
• Completion of an ACGME Accredited PEM Fellowship program
• Board BE/BC in Sub Specialty, if applicable.
• Must have an M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree from another country with a current Minnesota Medical License or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality, evidenced‑based care to pediatric and adolescent patients in a children's hospital ED.
• Supervise residents and PEM Fellows.
• Prescribe medications and health regimens to support recovery and healthy life.
• Credentialing requirements and licensure readiness.

Department Overview

The Children's Emergency departments, located in Minneapolis and St. Paul, are staffed 24 hours-a-day by board‑eligible or board‑certified pediatric emergency physicians and by nurses with specialized education in pediatric emergency medicine. Each facility is designed to support short‑stay needs, coordinate pediatric and neonatal care transport, assault and abuse services, access to pediatric specialists, and emergency telephone consultation and referral. In addition, Child Life staff, trained in child development, help children prepare for procedures and deal with anxiety.

Our Emergency Medicine Services program provides care to an 11‑county region and is a tertiary and quaternary referral center for the Upper Midwest. Our group currently consists of 45 BC/BE PEM physicians, 13 pediatric Nurse Practitioners, and 9 PEM Fellows. We pride ourselves on strong clinical care, child advocacy and research. Additionally, our department is a primary regional teaching site for 12 residency programs in pediatrics, med/peds, emergency medicine and family medicine. Our robust PEM Fellowship program has graduated 67 PEM physicians over the past 35 years.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality, evidenced‑based care to pediatric and adolescent age patients presenting with the full spectrum of acute medical and traumatic concerns in a free‑standing children’s hospital emergency department.
• Resident and PEM Fellow supervision
• Responsible for prescribing patients with appropriate medication, health regimens and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to their recovery, prevent future health issues and/or promote a healthier life.
• License/Certification/Registration required? Yes
• Board BE/BC in Pediatrics from the American Board of Pediatrics.
• Completion of an ACGME Accredited PEM Fellowship program
• Board BE/BC in Sub Specialty, if applicable.
• Ability to be successfully credentialed by both Hospital and 3rd Party Payers.
• Must have an M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree from another country with a current Minnesota Medical License or the ability to obtain one.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full‑time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part‑time positions will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full‑time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on‑call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
