Job summary

Children’s Minnesota in Saint Paul, MN, seeks an experienced ED nurse for an MNA contract role focused on mental health support within the Emergency Department. You will deliver family-centered nursing care to infants through adolescents and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

The position requires emergency nursing experience, MN RN license, BLS, and PALS/ENPC/TNCC as applicable; orientation will provide required certifications.

Qualifications

• RN licensed in Minnesota and current BLS certification.
• PALS certification required or obtained during orientation.
• ENPC certification required or obtained during orientation.
• TNCC certification required or obtained during orientation.
• Minimum of one year emergency department nursing experience.
• Additional unit-specific certifications may be required within 6 months of employment.

• Coordinate and provide family-centered nursing care to infants, children and adolescents in the ED.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to stabilize and treat pediatric patients with mental health concerns.

Department Overview

The pediatric emergency department at Children’s Minnesota St. Paul hospital is a 32-bed, Level IV trauma center that specializes in the assessment and stabilization of acute pediatric illness, injury and trauma. Our multidisciplinary care team of more than 150 pediatric professionals cares for over 45,000 patients a year, and can treat just about anything. The St. Paul emergency department offers 24‑hour access and has some of the shortest wait times in the country. The emergency department has all private rooms, two resuscitation rooms, and is staffed with board‑certified, pediatric emergency medicine physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners, and certified pediatric emergency registered nurses. Our care team has access to cutting‑edge technology, intensive and medical‑surgical units, and specialists to provide the best care and outcomes for our patients possible, all in a child‑focused, emergency environment. Our Emergency Department houses a new Pediatric Empath (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing) space that specializes in the care of patients who are in an acute mental health crisis. This 8‑patient space is designed to support rapid stabilization and disposition within an active treatment environment, grounded in trauma‑informed care and a therapeutic milieu model. Additionally, within the 32‑bed department we have 7 mental health “safer” rooms available to care for patients in an acute mental health or behavioral health crisis with an unknown disposition.

Position Summary

Coordinates and provides family‑centered nursing care to infants, children and adolescents, utilizing the nursing process. Accountable for professional practice including independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions performed in collaboration with other health team members. Primary nursing population for this role includes the Emergency Department Mental Health spaces. Primary care will be provided to children and adolescents with mental, behavioral, or emotional challenges requiring acute stabilization.

THIS IS AN MNA CONTRACT POSITION.

Education Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Minnesota RN licensure.
• Current BLS certification.
• One (1) year emergency department nursing experience.
• Based upon the unit in which you are applying, additional certification(s) may be required. Department specific required qualifications need to be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required or obtained during orientation.
• Proof of active ENPC upon hire or completion of Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) during orientation required.
• Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required or obtained during orientation.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full‑time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part‑time positions will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full‑time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on‑call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
