ED Patient Guardian — Constant Observation

Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Patient Observer for the Emergency Department. The role requires constant observation and documentation under RN direction, with shifts of 12 hours (7:00 am – 7:30 pm), on a 36-hour weekly schedule at 267 Charles Street in Boston.

Responsibilities include maintaining observation, reporting patient changes, assisting during falls, and handling handoffs. Onsite position with a busy, level I trauma ED environment and rotating holidays.

Qualifications

• Ability to remain alert for extended periods.
• Ability to verbally calm patients.
• Ability to perform calmly and quickly in stressful situations.
• Ability to read, write and speak English clearly.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant observation of patient.
• Document the care of patient under observation.
• Keep nurse informed of changes in the patient’s condition.
• Assists patient in the event of a fall.
• Receives and provides detailed handoff information from/to staff regarding the patient and their status.
• Assists with feeding patient(s) as directed by the RN.
