Essentia Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support emergency department operations, coordinating with radiology, laboratory, and patient transport, and entering verbal orders into Epic under physician direction. They will document requests for Hospitalists and other specialists via Stat Doc and Med Direct.
The role requires a health unit coordinator or medical secretary background, or one year of hospital/clinic experience with a high school diploma; an associate degree is preferred.

Job Description: Education Qualifications: This position supports the operations of the emergency room by providing coordination flow with radiology, laboratory, and patient transport. At the direction of a provider, enters verbal orders into Epic, scribes during a trauma, and supports the non-nursing functions in collaboration with nurses. Coordinates and documents into Epic all requests for Hospitalists through Stat Doc, and all other Specialty Physicians through Med Direct. Obtains pertinent information from other facilities at the request of the attending MD’s for further care of patients in the Emergency Department. Answers call lights and coordinates with nursing staff to meet the needs of the patient. Performs clerical and reception duties; requisition supplies, equipment, and services as directed. Monitors security cameras and responds to access request into the the emergency department. Preferred candidates will have Completion of a health unit coordinator program or medical secretary program If no formal education we will require 1 year experience or training in a hospital or clinic setting as a health unit coordinator, medical secretary, or medical receptionist. High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree in healthcare or related field preferred.
