Job summary

UCSF Health in San Francisco seeks a Behavioral Health Nurse to provide direct nursing care in the Emergency Department for patients with psychiatric and medical needs. The role involves interdisciplinary collaboration with Psych, ED staff, and other services, and includes responding to Code 100/Code 99 events.

The nurse will assess, plan, and document care, perform nursing histories, teach illness management to patients and families, and work within a 12-hour shift framework across UCSF Medical

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of recent acute care/inpatient hospital experience.
• Recent 6 months psychiatric experience required in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
• Lifting more than 50lbs, bending, twisting (not sedentary).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in the Emergency Department for psychiatric and medical patients.
• Take nursing histories and develop/assess care plans.
• Teach patients and families about illness and symptom management.
• Document results of interventions and evaluate patient outcomes.
• Collaborate with ED staff, psychiatric team, and ancillary services; respond to Code 100 and Code 99.
