Job summary

The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a Public Eligibility Specialist to determine initial and ongoing eligibility for social services programs in the North Georgia Health District. You will explain requirements, assist with forms, and connect applicants to housing, food, and other community resources.

Preferred candidates are bilingual in English/Spanish and have experience navigating public health services and client needs while maintaining accurate records and timely case

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 3 years of related experience, or 1 year at SSP050 or equivalent.
  • Experience working with clients needing access to services and/or governmental benefits in a public health environment.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Determines initial or continuing eligibility for social services programs.
  • Explains eligibility requirements, form completion, community resources for assistance, housing opportunities and selection methods.
  • Facilitates client access to community resources, including housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities or services.
  • Initiates procedures to grant, modify, deny or terminate eligibility and grants for various programs.
  • Interviews, assesses and investigates applicants for public assistance to gather information pertinent to their application.
  • Locates and develops resources for families and/or applicants.
  • Prepares and assists applicants in completion of routine intake forms.
  • Prepares regular and special reports, keeps records of assigned cases and submits individual recommendations.
  • Processes applications and/or reviews using appropriate criteria and policies consistently and according to established guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of related experience; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Economic Support Cons 1 (SSP050) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with clients needing access to services, support programs and/or governmental benefits in a public health environment
  • Demonstrable experience performing complex tasks that require meeting time frames
  • Demonstrable experience completing tasks that require high levels of organizational skills
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish
Additional Information

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

All positions require criminal history record check. Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment in the position.
