Job summary

Nash County Economic Development in North Carolina is seeking an Economic Development Manager to advance business growth across the county. You will focus on recruitment, retention, and expansion, coordinating marketing and promotional activities with local, state, and partner agencies.

The role requires strong public relations skills, data-driven decision making, and the ability to manage projects, budgets, and grant programs from planning through execution, while collaborating with officials

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the County’s marketable assets, taxation policies, land use policies, local incentives, environmental regulations, and related permitting processes.
• Theories and practices in business development fields, including economics, demographics, planning, finance, fundraising, marketing, real estate, and grant administration.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, county and town ordinances, and county department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the functional interrelationships among the County and other governmental agencies.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral, written, and presentation formats.
• Ability to analyze data and situations accurately, provide sound recommendations, and deliver precise information for industrial and business projects.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with business owners, public officials, contractors, and community partners.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Economic Development Director in implementing the County’s economic development strategy and annual work plan.
• Coordinates commercial and retail development activities with property owners, developers, and local officials.
• Supports industrial recruitment and expansion efforts with prospect responses, site tours, and data preparation.
• Serves as liaison to existing businesses through BRE programs and coordinates resources and follow-up.
• Manages economic development projects, grants, incentives, and community initiatives from planning to completion.
• Coordinates grant applications, project proposals, and information requests supporting development activities.
• Leads department marketing and communications, including marketing strategies, website content, and campaigns.
• Conducts research related to demographics, labor force, workforce, real estate, and industry trends; prepares reports and maps.
• Plans and coordinates economic development events, meetings, tours, and community initiatives.
• Maintains relationships with businesses, officials, and partners across levels of government and industry.
• Represents the department on committees and regional/state organizations as assigned.
• Assists with department budget development, goal setting, and program evaluation.
• Ensures compliance with county policies and state/federal requirements for development programs.
