General Summary
Perform direct patient cardiac diagnostic testing procedures with appropriate level of skill; in a timely and dependable manner consistent with current standards of care and departmental and/or hospital policy and procedure. Provide age‑specific care to patients of all ages. Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nursing staff and all other hospital staff.
Responsibilities
- Accurately perform all echocardiogram studies ordered by physicians, including, but limited to; Transthoracic 2‑D, M‑Mode, Color‑flow Doppler, Transesophageal, Exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography.
- Perform IV contrast administration and agitated saline bubble studies.
- Accurately perform other cardiac diagnostic studies as assigned, including but not limited to: EKG, Holter prep, monitoring and analysis and Cardiac stress tests.
- Correctly utilizes mechanical devices to provide the best diagnostic information to cardiology physicians to include but not limited to: echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors and computer analysis.
- Accurately assess hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and correct charging of all studies.
- Implement appropriate infection control practices and demonstrates a working knowledge of aseptic techniques and equipment disinfection.
- Interacts with students from contracted colleges and universities, providing preceptorship and clinical guidance as per contracted agreements.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform cardiac diagnostic tests following age specific guidelines and procedures, specifically with neonatal and pediatric patients.
- All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Credential(s): Basic Life Support; Registered Cardiac Sonographer; Or RDCS through ARDMS
- Experience: Required: Successful completion of certification program and/or two years hands‑on experience with echocardiography.
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience
- Education: Certificate Program Cardiovascular Sonography
- Credential(s):
- Experience: Preferred: Extensive experience in echocardiography studies in a hospital setting. Extensive experience in both pediatric and neonatal echocardiography.
