Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer I for part-time, 20 hours per week. The role involves performing non-invasive transthoracic echocardiograms and supporting various echocardiographic procedures across settings, with a 24-hour call rotation after orientation.

Qualifications include an allied health associate degree (bachelor's preferred), ARDMS RDCS pediatric registry within two years, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in allied health required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • ARDMS RDCS pediatric registry within two years of hire.
  • ARDMS/CCI echocardiography credential required; pediatric credential preferred; ultrasound/CVT program accreditation required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • No supervising experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complete non-invasive transthoracic echocardiographic studies and assists with various echocardiographic procedures.
  • Assists the physician with transesophageal, intraoperative, contrast, and fetal echocardiography if designated.
  • Provides data on cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics to aid diagnosis of congenital heart defects.
  • Uses equipment necessary to perform testing.
  • Assesses patient status and age-specific requirements.
  • Available for 24-hour call on a rotational basis after orientation.
  • Works at remote clinic facilities.
  • Other duties as required.

Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer I completes non-invasive transthoracic echocardiographic studies, assists with various echocardiographic procedures.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Performs complete non-invasive transthoracic echocardiographic studies, assists with various echocardiographic procedures.
  • 2. Assists the physician with transesophageal, intraoperative, contrast, and, if designated, fetal echocardiography.
  • 3. Functions independently and provides applicable data regarding cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics to assist the cardiologist in the diagnosis of congenital heart defects.
  • 4. Uses a variety of equipment necessary to perform testing.
  • 5. Demonstrates the ability to assess patient status and identify each patient’s specific age requirements.
  • 6. Is available for call 24 hours a day on a rotational basis after appropriate training/orientation period.
  • 7. Works at remote clinic facilities.
  • 8. Other duties as required.
Other information
Technical Expertise
  • 1. Experience in clinical setting performing echocardiograms is required.
  • 2. Experience interacting with a variety of people and ages in a helpful manner, with understanding of growth and development specific to that age is preferred.
  • 3. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
  • 4. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience
  • 1. Education: Associate's degree in allied health profession required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2. Certification: ARDMS RDCS pediatric registry within two years of hire.
  • 3. An appropriate credential in echocardiography from ARDMS or CCI is required. A credential in pediatric echocardiography is preferred. Successful completion of an ultrasound or CVT program accredited by CAAHEP or another nationally recognized accrediting body is required.
  • 4. Basic Life Support Certification is required.
  • 5. Years of experience supervising: None.
