Summary

Educational Sponsorship Program:

Altru encourages and supports the continuing growth and development of its current and future employees by offering educational financial assistance. The educational sponsorship incentive program is intended to cover all or a portion of the per‑semester cost of tuition, program and management fees while pursuing a degree required for a qualified future role at Altru.

Program Eligibility:

  • Must maintain full‑time enrollment at an accredited regional academic partner and complete the program within expected academic guidelines (associate, 2‑year, bachelor, 4‑year).
  • Recipients must provide proof of ongoing full‑time enrollment within the degree program (transcript) and maintain at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA to continue to qualify.
  • If the program requires clinical rotations, the student will be expected to complete the rotation at Altru.
  • Current employees must maintain at least casual employment status while enrolled and pursuing a qualified degree.
  • Applicants who are current employees must be in good standing at the time of application.

Employment Commitment:

  • Education related expenses up to $25,000: two (2) year employment commitment.
  • Education related expenses exceeding $25,000: three (3) year employment commitment.

Job Description

The Cardiac Sonographer produces images of heart muscle and functioning by setting up ultrasound equipment, operating and adjusting equipment, recording cardiac data and measurements, and protecting and helping patients. This position assists with trans‑esophageal cardiograms, dobutamine stress tests, and other procedures as needed. The technologist identifies pertinent clinical information and communicates it to the physician.

Essential Job Functions
  • Identifies cardiac anatomy according to age of patient, as well as cardiac anomalies, heart disease and pertinent clinical information and communicates this to the cardiologist.
  • Assists the cardiologist with patient exams and identifies any changes of patient clinical circumstances which may alter the exam protocol and performance.
  • Performs computer analysis and demonstrates competency in making quantitative calculations of echo data. Reviews echocardiograms for quality and completeness and the cardiologist’s preference.
  • Collects and reviews all required clinical information prior to performing exams and communicates information to the physician and co‑workers, e.g., patient history, pertinent symptoms, etc. Ensures that a written physician order is received prior to an exam performance and reviews charts to ensure that proper exams are performed.
  • Provides education appropriate to patient procedure and within scope of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
