Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Child Educator
Position Overview

The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:

Position Purpose

The ECFE Child Educator will plan, organize and implement quality early childhood education for assigned ECFE classes. This position is considered exemptunder the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Primary Responsibilities

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Submit yearly curriculum plans and weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator
  • With the coordinator, research curriculum in accordance with overall program policy and philosophies and expand and improve professional resources
  • Plan according to learning styles and cultural/socioeconomic differences
  • Develop and implement curriculum for parent/child time and child components of the program
  • Prepare and clean up the classroom
  • Arrange the classroom learning environment in an age-appropriate manner
  • Responsible for classroom supplies and placing needed items on the shopping list
  • Make referrals to coordinator as needed for special assistance or community resources
  • Oversee classroom assistant and assign duties as needed
  • Make referrals to Early Childhood Special Education as needed
  • Collaborate with ECSE to meet individual needs of families
  • Serve as a model for parents when working with young children
  • Meet individually with parents as needed
  • Attend staff meetings and special events as assigned
  • Assist in public relations and outreach services as needed
  • Follow discipline policy and all district program policies
  • Observe confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ECFE/SR Coordinator

Preferences

We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues, commitment to ECFE program philosophies, and an enthusiasm for working with students. Preferred candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning as evidenced by graduate-level work or an earned degree, as well as participation in professional organization conferences or seminars related to the content area. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of:
    • Early childhood development
    • Family dynamics
  • Ability to:
    • Interact and communicate effectively with parents and children
    • Implement and supervise programming for early childhood classrooms
    • Plan and organize work
    • Self-motivate and work individually or in a group setting
    • Lift and move materials or equipment and hold children typically < 50 pounds
    • Walk 1 mile
    • Work in indoor and outdoor settings
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications

The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. degree and current Minnesota State Licensure in Early Childhood Education.Additional demonstrated qualifications include: commitment to the equitable education of all students, creative planning and organizational skills, and highly effective interpersonal skills. Previous experience working with early childhood learners preferred. Prefer candidate with experience working with diverse learners.

Licensing Requirements

Current Minnesota Early Childhood license or eligibility, CPR and first aid certification is required.

Salary and Benefits

The starting pay for this position is between $33.86-$37.87. Estimated hours up to 18 hours/week. Your initial placement is dependent on your qualifications (education and years of relevant experience).You will be eligible for sick and safe time.
