Job summary

Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation seeks an ECE Assistant/Bus Driver at Head Start in Inchelium, WA. The role supports teachers with preschool activities, supervises children, and helps with transportation services to support school readiness goals.

Requires GED/HS diploma, and CDA or equivalent in ECE within two years; preschool experience and a reference check are needed. Tribal preference applies; a WA driver’s license and background checks may be required.

POSITION:ECE Assist/Bus Driver

SALARY:$20.34-24.75, per hour

REPORTS TO: ECESite Supervisor

LOCATION:Head Start, Inchelium, WA

Basic Functions

Non-Exempt. Assists one or more early childhood teachers in the education, care, supervision, and instruction of pre-school aged children, in classrooms, common areas, playgrounds, and during transportation at a center dedicated to school readiness goals in children, and in the community. Maintains and prepares classroom and related environments and materials.

Qualifications

Education and Training

• Requires completion of a GED/High School diploma within 6 months of hire.
• This position requires completion of CDA or equivalent in early childhood education within two (2) years of hire with emphasis on pre-school age children.The position requires experience working with preschool aged children in a play-oriented learning or equivalent environment.
• Requires reference check when submitting application or application will be considered incomplete.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Requires basic knowledge of the principles and practices of age appropriate early child development applicable for an educational setting.
• Requires a basic knowledge of instruction methods for preschool-aged children.
• Requires knowledge of basic clerical and record keeping processes.
• Requires basic knowledge of and skill at using personal computers, games, and other equipment to support play, learning, record information, and send communications.
• Requires sufficient human relation skills to work productively and cooperatively with teachers, students, and parents in informal settings, to exercise patience when conveying information, and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students.
• May require knowledge of native language, culture, and traditions.
• Requires the ability to assist teaching staff with implementation of play-oriented instructional activities.
• Requires the ability to learn to assess the needs of individual students.
• Requires the ability to conduct informal reading and project circles with individual and small groups of children and assist others with demonstrations of assigned subject matter.
• Requires the ability to relate positively to students in a learning environment in a way that builds confidence and recognizes socioeconomic and cultural differences among children.
• Requires the ability to balance children’s physical needs, emotional support, and deal with common behavior problems.
