Job summary

Head Start in Omak, WA seeks an ECE Assistant/Bus Driver to support preschool teaching teams, supervise children, and assist with transportation. You will help prepare classrooms and activities in classrooms, on the playground, and during bus rides.

Minimum qualifications include a GED or HS diploma within 6 months, and CDA or equivalent in ECE within two years. Tribal preference applies; a WA driver’s license may be required, with background checks as applicable.

CLOSING DATE: October 2nd, 2026POSITION: ECE Assist/Bus DriverSALARY: $20.00-24.34, per hourREPORTS TO: ECE Site SupervisorLOCATION: Head Start, Omak, WABasic Functions: Non-Exempt. Assists one or more early childhood teachers in the education, care, supervision, and instruction of pre-school aged children, in classrooms, common areas, playgrounds, and during transportation at a center dedicated to school readiness goals in children, and in the community. Maintains and prepares classroom and related environments and materials.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Training:Requires completion of a GED/High School diploma within 6 months of hire.This position requires completion of CDA or equivalent in early childhood education within two (2) years of hire with emphasis on pre-school age children. The position requires experience working with preschool aged children in a play-oriented learning or equivalent environment.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Requires basic knowledge of the principles and practices of age appropriate early child development applicable for an educational setting.Requires a basic knowledge of instruction methods for preschool-aged children.Requires knowledge of basic clerical and record keeping processes.Requires basic knowledge of and skill at using personal computers, games, and other equipment to support play, learning, record information, and send communications.Requires sufficient human relation skills to work productively and cooperatively with teachers, students, and parents in informal settings, to exercise patience when conveying information, and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students.May require knowledge of native language, culture, and traditions.Requires the ability to assist teaching staff with implementation of play-oriented instructional activities.Requires the ability to learn to assess the needs of individual students.Requires the ability to conduct informal reading and project circles with individual and small groups of children and assist others with demonstrations of assigned subject matter.Requires the ability to relate positively to students in a learning environment in a way that builds confidence and recognizes socioeconomic and cultural differences among children.Requires the ability to balance children’s physical needs, emotional support, and deal with common behavior problems.Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
