Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 48 college credits required.
• One year working with EC children preferred.
• Ability to pass a formal assessment (WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training).
• Completion of the NC Department of Labor (DOL) Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Coordinate instructional efforts with the classroom teacher.
• Assist with checking materials, portfolios, and supervising tasks.
• Assist with attendance procedures and record keeping.
• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
• Participate in transportation duties for arrival and departure.
• Provide physical assistance to students as needed (self-help, toileting, feeding).
• Assist therapists and teachers with occupational and physical therapy tasks.
• Write assignments and notes for students under teacher direction.
• Assist students with mobility tasks and wheelchair assistance.
• Participate in professional development and other meetings.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
