Job description

Cross-Categorical Resource Teacher

Department of Exceptional Children

Sterling Montessori is seeking a full-time Cross-Categorical Resource Teacher who has experience working with students in K through 8th grade. Candidates must have an undergraduate degree and an EC license. The hours are from 8-4 and pay is on par with the Wake County pay scale along with full insurance benefits and 401-K matching. Sterling Montessori has a strong and collegial EC department which includes four full-time special education teachers, a behavioral specialist, as well as related service personnel.

Essential Functions

  1. Ensure safety of students
  2. Implement IEP learning objectives through classroom activities including small group, individual, and large group lessons
  3. Develop and implement behavior management plans for students as needed in collaboration with Behavior Support Specialist
  4. Maintain a safe environment for all students using crisis intervention techniques if warranted
  5. Maintain a classroom conducive to learning and free of health and safety hazards
  6. Develop schedules and lesson plans for the classroom allowing for a variety of activities and special events appropriate for students with specialized intervention goals
  7. Communicate progress through speech and writing, to parents and other school personnel in compliance with state and program policies and procedures
  8. Conduct preliminary and ongoing evaluations of student levels and needs through formal and informal means
  9. Elicit input from parents, caseworkers, and others involved in student program development
  10. Design appropriate goals and objectives for students based on evaluations and staff and parent input
  11. Work cooperatively to develop programming and evaluation through disciplinary teaming approach
  12. Provide direction and training to teacher assistants, substitutes, or volunteers assigned to the classroom (when necessary and if required)
  13. Communicate to teacher assistants information necessary for student program implementation (when necessary and if required)
  14. Schedule daily routine for teacher assistants assigned to the classroom
  15. Interact in a positive and professional manner with staff, students, and parents
  16. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student grades
  17. Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation
  18. Attend meetings and professional growth, in-service training, seminars, workshops, etc. as required to keep current on relevant issues
  19. Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  20. Collaborate with general education teacher to adapt regular curriculum and provide alternative teaching techniques to enhance student level
  21. Attend work regularly and punctually
  22. Demonstrate a positive work ethic
  23. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  24. Observe ethics of the teaching profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment
  25. Plan and schedule inclusion of students in a regular homeroom, special homeroom activities, and other classes as needed
  26. Perform other duties that may be assigned by Director of Student Services/Building Principal/Designee

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Attend staff, IEP, behavior management, team evaluation, and curriculum meetings as necessary
  2. Work cooperatively with support staff to schedule time for related service evaluation and implementation
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by the EC Director, Grade Level Director, or Director of Student Affairs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited University (required)
  • Exceptional Children (EC) State License (preferred)
  • AMS Montessori Trained (preferred)
  • Experience working with elementary age students (preferred)
  • Experience working in a Montessori Setting (preferred)

  • Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology

  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
