D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy in Wilmington, North Carolina is seeking an Instructional Assistant - EC to support a classroom environment and assist with learning activities.

This is a temporary, full-time role starting immediately, with responsibilities across general instruction, behavior support, and small-group activities. The assistant will help plan learning spaces, provide one-on-one help as needed, and participate in staff development workshops.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher by monitoring and assisting students in the classroom and during other activities to ensure quality instruction in a safe environment
• Assist classroom and/or teachers with academic and student behaviors; may lead small group activities
• Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, conducting group exercises, and preparing materials and supplies
• Assist students with learning; reinforce and clarify instructions; conduct short sessions on studying skills; provide one-on-one help as needed
• Monitor safety and well-being of students; encourage self-esteem; help students become more independent
• Support may include face-to-face talks, walks in designated areas, and de-escalation talks
• Stay informed of daily routines, student handbook rules, and procedures for emergencies; implement behavior intervention plans and document effectiveness
• Participate in staff development workshops; perform other duties as assigned by Principal or ECC Coordinator
