Job Description

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time: Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson; start class quickly; maintain high student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior: Establish rules and procedures for participation, movement, and transitions; monitor behavior; address inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation: Review previous material, introduce objectives, present content clearly, provide examples and demonstrations, assign tasks, ask appropriate questions; pace lessons; handle transitions smoothly; summarize key points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintain work standards, circulate, use oral & written checks, pose questions clearly.
  • Instructional Feedback: Provide correct/incorrect feedback, prompt out‑of‑class feedback, affirm correct responses, probe incorrect ones.
  • Facilitating Instruction: Create instructional plans aligned with curriculum; use diagnostic data to revise objectives; maintain accurate records; align objectives, strategies, assessment and resources.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treat all students fairly, interact effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Execute assigned duties, adhere to laws & policies, pursue professional development, demonstrate growth.
Additional Job Functions

Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards

Physical Requirements: Ability to use classroom equipment, lift/carry/push/pull light objects, consistent with light work.
