Job Description

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time: Teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the beginning of each lesson; starts class quickly; maintains high student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior: Establishes rules and procedures for roles, participation, movement and transitions; monitors behavior; stops inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation: Begins lesson with review; introduces objectives; speaks fluently; presents material with clear language; provides examples, demonstrations, tasks; asks adequate questions; adjusts pacing; transitions efficiently; summarizes main points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Sets standards and due dates; circulates during class work; uses assessments; requests clear questions.
  • Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on correctness; gives prompt feedback on work; affirms correct responses; probes or gives clues after incorrect or no response.
  • Facilitating Instruction: Uses planned curriculum aligned with school and state goals; applies diagnostic information; records performance; matches objectives with strategies; uses resources.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Executes assigned duties; adheres to laws and policies; follows professional development plan.

Additional Job Functions: Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or related field qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
