Job description

Job Title: TEACHER EC

Starting Date: Immediately

Reports to: Principal

Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Responsibilities
  • Management of Instructional Time: Teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson, gets the class started quickly, gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
  • Management of Student Behavior: Teacher has established rules for routine administration, verbal participation, movement, monitors behavior, stops inappropriate behavior promptly while preserving dignity.
  • Instructional Presentation: Begins lesson with a review, introduces objectives, speaks fluently and precisely, presents concepts with understandable language, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks for high success, asks appropriate questions, conducts lesson briskly, makes transitions efficiently, and summarizes main points.
  • Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintains clear work standards and due dates, circulates during class, checks performance, uses oral and written products, poses questions clearly.
  • Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on in‑class work, offers prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and provides sustaining feedback after incorrect or no response.
  • Facilitating Instruction: Has an instructional plan aligned with school and system goals, uses diagnostic information to develop objectives, keeps accurate records, aligns objectives with student needs and difficulty level, and uses available resources.
  • Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly, interacts with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
  • Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows policies and regulations, pursues professional development.
  • Additional Job Functions: Performs other related work as required.
Training and Experience

Degree in education or a related area qualifying for licensure as an EC Teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
