Job summary

Scoular seeks an Eastern Rail Senior Merchant in the United States to trade eastern rail markets involving CN, NS, and CSX. The role develops market opinions, interprets trends, and takes risk/reward positions for the company.

You will build deep customer relationships with buyers, sellers, origin elevators, and end users, while mentoring other Merchants on the team. Lead execution logistics planning, negotiate freight contracts, and arbitrate positions for optimal results.

Qualifications

• 4+ years merchandising experience.
• College degree in business related field or equivalent experience.
• Proven critical thinking skills and ability to drive strategy forward.
• Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills and relationship building capability.
• Proven ability to perform in a fast‑paced environment.
• Demonstrated aptitude in accounting and financial practices and procedures.
• Highly skilled in problem solving techniques.

Responsibilities

• Market Analytics: Ensure trade unit complies with risk policies and assess market trends to inform decisions.
• Logistics/Execution: Lead execution logistics planning, negotiate freight contracts, and manage provider relationships.
• Customer Relationship Building: Recruit customers, build relationships, provide market info, and handle trading conflicts.
• P&L Planning & Management: Assist in monthly/quarterly/yearly P&L estimates and maintain position reports.
• People Development/Training: Coach Merchants and foster collaboration within the division.
