Job summary

Railserve, part of Marmon Holdings, is seeking an experienced hands-on crew lead for earthwork construction projects. You will operate grade construction equipment, inspect job sites, and supervise crew performance to deliver safe, efficient results.

Responsibilities include determining materials and staffing needs, following FRA rules and company procedures, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Travel to sites may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 1–2 years experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret simple instructions and to write routine correspondence.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.

• Direct and implement grade construction equipment operations for railroad grade construction projects.
• Assist with materials and staffing determinations for projects.
• Follow FRA rules and company procedures to maximize asset utilization and control costs.
• Oversee assigned work to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Perform job-site inspections of equipment and tools and ensure compliance.

I. SUMMARY

Responsible for earthwork construction and maintenance projects including operating grade construction equipment, project production, job site inspection and crew oversight.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

• Hands-on direction and implementation of grade construction equipment for railroad grade construction other projects as assigned.
• Assist with determining materials needed and staff requirements for projects.
• Will utilize company operating procedures and FRA rules, standards, and instructions to complete project work and to maximize asset utilization to control costs.
• Produce and oversee the work assigned ensuring that it is completed in a safe and efficient manner.
• Perform job site inspections including equipment and tool inspections.
• Other duties as assigned.

III. Qualifications

A. Education and/or Experience

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 1 to 2 years of experience preferred
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Comprehensive knowledge of earthwork construction and operating heavy equipment
• Must be able to operate, and train others how to operate heavy grade equipment
• Must have a sharp eye for detail
• Superior communication skills; Must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
• Must have the ability to work well with others as part of a team.
• Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently under minimal supervision.

C. Language Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

D. Reasoning Ability:

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Individual must have the ability to travel as required.
• Valid Driver's License in good standing required.
