Job summary

Central Louisiana Human Services District seeks a Community Service Professional 1–3 to support the Early Steps program in the Developmental Disabilities Department in Alexandria. You will serve as an initial contact for access to services and referral sources, interview families to gather information, and explain program steps.

The role requires experience ranging from four to six years, or an appropriate degree combination, with opportunities for progression from Community Service Professional

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in providing health or developmentally disabled services, counseling, health care management, or social services.
• Six years of full-time work experience plus one year of related experience in health or developmentally disabled services, counseling, health care management, or social services.
• A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in providing health or developmentally disabled services, counseling, health care management, or social services.
• An advanced degree in a social sciences field, nursing, public health; public, hospital, or health administration; speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders; physical, occupational, recreational, or music therapy.
• EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

• Serves as an initial point of contact for individuals seeking access to EarlySteps and other designated organizations and referral sources.
• Interviews individuals and families to obtain information regarding developmental concerns, functional needs, existing supports, and available resources.
• Communicates with referral sources and families regarding the status of referrals and next steps.
• Assists individuals and families in understanding program processes, referral requirements, and next steps.

Education

Bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in health or developmental disability services

Advanced degree in social sciences, nursing, public health, health administration, or related field
