Job description

The YMCA of Saginaw is seeking an enthusiastic Early Learning Assistant Teacher who is passionate about working with children and supporting their learning. As the Early Learning Assistant Teacher, you will support the Lead Teacher at the Saginaw YMCA Early Learning Center program year-round. The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with giving care, and providing a safe, nurturing environment for children in our Early Learning Center in accordance with Y program guidelines and Licensing requirements.

Qualifications

Must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, and be able to relate well with children. Must qualify under State of Michigan Licensing to work in a childcare setting including obtaining 24 hours of training each licensing year. Prior experience working with children is required. Training in Early Childhood Development is preferred. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Have or willing to obtain 30 days after hire: CPR and First Aid.

Able to pass a background check, fingerprinting and TB test required. Excellent communication and organization skills; general computer knowledge. Must work closely with other caregivers in accordance with the Y program guidelines and Licensing. Must be an energetic, motivated team player committed to a high-quality program.

Essential Functions

Support the YMCA Early Learning Center program year-round. Treat all children with love, respect, and dignity. Maintain a safe, clean and appropriate physical environment, always ensuring the safety of all children and in compliance with all State of Michigan Licensing requirements. Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson/activity plans. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary. Know appropriate emergency and safety procedures. Be familiar with procedures of reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protective Services. Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, teachers and all staff. Help provide communication and opportunities for parents to be actively involved in all phases of the program. Help maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies throughout the year; notifying the Site Director of needs and replacement of the damaged and worn materials. Help with other tasks assigned by the Supervisor. Maintain professional attitude and practices when dealing with children, parents, community members and other staff, serving as representative and role model for the Saginaw YMCA. Attend at least 24 hours of staff development conferences, workshops, or seminars on Early Childhood Education. Participate in assessment, evaluation, and goal setting.
