Job summary

Felton Institute is seeking an Early Intervention Teacher Assistant in San Francisco to support assessment, teaching, and implementation of developmental goals for children with special needs. You will collaborate with Head Teacher and EI team on curriculum planning, write progress notes, and participate in meetings while maintaining strong communication with families and staff.

The role requires a high school diploma, state permit, and ability to lift/lift equipment; it offers full-time onsite

Qualifications

  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must hold California Teacher Credentialing Assistant Permit or equivalent.
  • Pass a physical exam and TB screening per Title 22 regulations.
  • Pass DOJ fingerprint and Child Abuse Index clearance as required by licensing.
  • Able to lift 25–40 lbs.
  • Bend, stoop and move from floor during activities.
  • Move quickly in emergencies.
  • Knowledge of children with special needs is a plus.
  • Awareness of low-income and homeless issues for children and families preferred.
  • Respectful and positive interactions with children and adults.
  • Able to communicate in English (read/write/speak).
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player.

Responsibilities

  • Work with teaching staff to develop a comprehensive children’s program per Felton ECE policies.
  • Assist with activities, child care duties, and record keeping.
  • Greet parents professionally and share information about the child’s day.
  • Create a warm, nurturing atmosphere to encourage learning.
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to fit needs.
  • Deliver educational and therapeutic activities across motor, language, social development.
  • Collaborate with parents, staff and external consultants to meet needs.
  • Complete development records and maintain documentation.
  • Supervise children at all times and ensure safety, following protocols.
