Job summary

Tulsa Public Schools is seeking an Early Intervention Mentor to serve as a year-round behavioral support leader, providing coaching, planning, and professional development to strengthen school-based capacity in behavior intervention.

The role supports standardized FFBA and BIP implementations, guiding teams in trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices to reduce lost instructional time and improve districtwide outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in social work, psychology, child development, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in education, social work, or mental health.
  • Oklahoma Teacher’s Certification preferred and maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches and supports school teams in implementing schoolwide and tiered positive behavior supports.
  • Supports development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Delivers professional learning on classroom management, positive behavior support, and cultural competency.
  • Models and observes effective classroom management techniques.
  • Collaborates with MTSS teams, teachers, and administrators to support students needing behavior intervention.
  • Collects and analyzes behavioral data to inform plans and evaluate results.

Grade: Business Grade 8 | BG-8

Position Summary

The Early Intervention Mentor serves as a year-round behavioral support leader, providing expert coaching, planning, and professional development to strengthen school-based capacity in behavior intervention. This role supports the implementation of standardized Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), while guiding teams in trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices. The Early Intervention Mentor helps ensure students’ behavioral needs are met proactively and equitably, reducing lost instructional time and improving outcomes districtwide.

Key Functions
  • Coaches and supports school teams in implementing schoolwide and tiered positive behavior supports
  • Supports the development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  • Develops and delivers professional learning on classroom management, positive behavior support, and cultural competency
  • Models and observes positive classroom management techniques in the classroom
  • Collaborates with MTSS teams, teachers, and administrators to identify and support students needing behavior intervention
  • Collects and analyzes behavioral data to inform plans and evaluate results
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in social work, psychology, child development, special education, or a closely related field
Experience
  • Three (3) years’ work experience in education, social work, or mental health
Licenses And Certifications
  • Hold a valid Oklahoma Teacher’s Certification and maintain it throughout employment preferred
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Sound knowledge of child development and behavior modification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to effectively collaborate with teachers, leaders, parents, students, and district personnel
  • Expertise in working with teams and individuals to develop and implement schoolwide and individual positive behavior support plans
  • Ability to communicate with at-risk students
  • Ability to de-escalate heightened student behavior and emotions
  • Open to change and applies critical thinking while developing solutions based on new guidelines, methods, techniques, and technologies
  • Ability to manage both up and down and create buy-in from individuals with diverse perspectives and backgrounds for new ideas and approaches
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus
