Xage is seeking an early-in-career Software Engineer to join our lean engineering team in Palo Alto. You will help build, scale, and secure products that defend customers from modern cyber threats.

This role offers the chance to wear multiple hats, impact production from day one, and grow with a fast-moving startup focused on zero-trust security. Visa transfers are supported; equity is included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Proficiency in at least one backend or systems language (Python, Go, Rust, C++, or Java).
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS) and how the web works.

Responsibilities

• Feature development: write clean, maintainable, tested code for core security products.
• Security integration: help implement security-first protocols and secure data handling practices.
• Collaboration & agility: participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, and code reviews with senior engineers.
• Triage & support: investigate, debug, and resolve bugs or vulnerabilities identified by tests or feedback.
• Continuous learning: quickly pick up new tools, languages, and security frameworks as the product evolves.

About the Role

We are looking for an ambitious, intellectually curious early in career/entry level Software Engineer to join our lean engineering team. In this role, you won’t just be a small cog in a massive wheel; you will actively help build, scale, and secure products that protect our customers from modern cyber threats.

Key Responsibilities

• Feature Development: Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code for our core security products.
• Security Integration: Assist in implementing security-first protocols, encryption standards, and secure data handling practices.
• Collaboration & Agility: Participate in daily stand-ups, rapid sprint planning, and code reviews with a tight-knit team of senior engineers.
• Triage & Support: Help investigate, debug, and resolve product bugs or security vulnerabilities identified by automated testing or customer feedback.
• Continuous Learning: Rapidly pick up new tools, languages, and security frameworks as our product suite evolves.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience/portfolio).
• Foundational Coding: Proficiency in at least one modern backend or systems language (e.g., Python, Go, Rust, C++, or Java ).
• CS Fundamentals: Strong understanding of core computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Networking Basics: Familiarity with basic networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS) and how the web works.
• The Small-Team Mindset: High autonomy, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to pivot quickly when product requirements change.

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Points)

Note: We don’t expect you to know all of this on day one, but exposure to any of these will help you stand out!

• Academic or personal project experience with cloud platforms ( AWS, GCP, or Azure ).
• Basic understanding of the OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities and secure coding principles.
• Experience with containers ( Docker, Kubernetes ).
• Familiarity with cryptography basics (symmetric/asymmetric encryption, hashing).
• Active participation in CTFs (Capture the Flag), hackathons, or open-source contributions.
• Salary Range: $100,000 – $115,000 p/yr + Equity
• We will process visa transfers and immigration
