Job summary

Save the Children in Eunice, LA seeks an Early Head Start Teacher to design and deliver individualized and group activities that promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth for infants and toddlers.

You will co-teach with a fellow educator, partner with families, maintain records, ensure safety, and participate in ongoing professional development to sustain high-quality early education within the Head Start framework.

Qualifications

  • CDA or related degree with early childhood coursework and preschool teaching experience.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse teams to serve children and families.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative.
  • Knowledge of Head Start / Early Head Start program purpose.
  • Ability to relate sensitively to children.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Participation in professional development including basic first aid and pediatric CPR as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized and group lesson plans for infants and toddlers.
  • Guide daily activities and field trips with a co-Teacher.
  • Set up classroom materials and maintain a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Provide responsive caregiving with routines integrated into flexible schedules.
  • Plan conferences and home visits to inform families about progress.
  • Maintain records in paper and online systems.
  • Protect confidentiality of children and families.
  • Observe, assess and document child development with ongoing portfolios.
  • Collaborate with Program Aides and Volunteers to enhance classroom activities.
  • Ensure active supervision to keep children safe at all times.
  • Use playground as learning space and supervise safety.
  • Share meals with children to teach social and self-help skills.
  • Support children’s health needs and personal routines.
  • Engage parents in education and home activities.
  • Inventory classroom equipment annually.
  • Work with Education & Inclusion Manager on professional development plans.
  • Keep the classroom clean and organized.
  • Document matching-in-kind activities.
  • Flexibility to stay until all children are picked up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
