Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a Teacher Assistant I for the Early Head Start South Bay program to support children ages 2‑3 in a developmentally appropriate environment.

Qualifications

• Bilingual English and Spanish is preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 24 CD units in ECE/CD, including 6 infant/toddler units, required or to be completed within a year of hire.
• AA in ECE/CD with 24 units or related field with 24 CD units, including 6 units infant/toddler, preferred.
• Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide an environment with varied activities to support social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.
• Plan and implement curriculum for morning and afternoon classes (double sessions).
• Integrate HS services like parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health, and mental health.
• Maintain classroom planning and student records, and submit monthly paperwork on time.
• Observe and assess children's developmental levels; set goals for individual needs.
• Provide activities that involve and empower parents as primary educators of their children.
• Create a learning environment reflecting diverse cultural backgrounds and communities.
• Ensure health and safety in line with licensing requirements.
• Perform other duties as needed to fulfill program mission.
