Early Head Start - Head Start Assistant Teacher

Job Summary

The Head Start Assistant Teacher assists in planning and implementing classroom activities for Head Start children. This role involves working closely with the lead teacher to support the developmental needs of children and engaging with families to foster a collaborative learning environment.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the supervision of children.
  • Supervise the planning and execution of a program that considers the social, developmental, and health needs of the group and individual children.
  • Observe and record children’s behavior and development.
  • Collaborate with the Group Teacher to create developmentally appropriate weekly lesson plans.
  • Assist the Group Teacher in developing and maintaining positive relationships with families.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings with families, colleagues, and the interdisciplinary team of the school.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the program’s goals.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards, including confidentiality and respect for rights and privacy of staff, parents, and children.
  • Attend mandated trainings and meetings, seeking staff development opportunities.
  • Work as a team member with all staff, maintaining a positive work ethic and acting conscientiously in routine duties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education required.
  • Experience working with families and children ages birth to five required.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to write correctly using grammar, spelling, and punctuation; organize documents accurately.
  • Effective communication skills with community members, groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families, both individually and in group settings.
