A leading educational organization in Connecticut is seeking a Student Support Specialist I to work within a structured therapeutic environment supporting K-12 students. Job Description

EASTCONN operates a Clinical, Developmental and Therapeutic (CDT) program in Northeastern Connecticut serving grades K-12. This program is designed for students who need a highly structured, supportive, therapeutic environment in order to achieve academic and behavioral success. The program emphasizes supporting students in acquiring the academic, social, emotional and behavioral skills necessary to successfully return to their local public schools or a less restrictive environment, and combine individualized instruction with a multimodal approach and high-interest materials to maximize learning.

We are hiring Student Support Specialist I's to assist students and other classroom staff to promote a safe and healthy environment for learning. This position works under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher or other certified staff who assigns tasks and reviews work upon completion.

Education and Experience
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: At least one year of paid or unpaid volunteer experience working with children in an organized setting.
  • Or: Combination of education and experience that is a substantial equivalent to the above education and experience.
Special Requirements
  • For positions in the CDT Program: Within six (6) months of appointment, must successfully complete Physical Management Techniques (PMT) training and recertification annually.
  • For positions in the Autism Program: Within six (6) months of appointment, must successfully complete Safety Care training and recertification annually.
  • Depending on Program: Complete and maintain certification for First Aid and CPR.
