Summary
A Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher. The Teacher Assistant must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the needs of others, relate well to children and co-workers, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with Calvary Chapel Christian Academy philosophy.
Duties
- Assist children with daily activities under the lead teacher's direction.
- Supervise student activities according to lesson plans, routines, and lead teacher directives.
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
- Encourage biblical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and respect for self and others.
- Observe and record students’ performance to assess progress with the lead teacher.
- Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils.
- Serve meals and snacks, train children in proper eating habits, and clean eating areas.
- Maintain classroom organization and cleanliness.
- Assist children with potty breaks and teach proper hand-washing techniques.
- Monitor students during recess and naps.
- Create a safe and disciplined environment.
- Serve as a Christian role model for students and families.
- Implement school policies and regulations.
- Help children develop spiritually through prayer, Bible stories, devotions, and worship.
- Problem-solve effectively, including discipline and first aid.
- Ensure compliance with academy policies and state regulations.
- Maintain a healthy classroom environment, hygiene, safety, and security.
- Keep accurate records, forms, and files.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, children, and families.
- Engage in professional development for continuous improvement.
- Attend at least one service weekly at CCNN or another Christian church.
- Participate in staff meetings and lead devotions/prayer.
- Spend at least 30 minutes monthly praying with an assigned partner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Strong communication skills and basic computer literacy.
- High energy, teamwork skills, and ability to work well with staff, children, and parents.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Clear background check and health screening.
- Early childhood education coursework is a plus.
- Ability to frequently walk, handle objects, and communicate effectively.
- Visual acuity including color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Ability to lift at least 35 lbs.
