Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Child Care Education Program, operated by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) in the School of Health and Human Sciences, aims to excel in teaching, research, and service related to human development and relationships across the lifespan. It educates future professionals and scholars, generates new knowledge, and promotes well-being among individuals and families.
The program provides experiential learning opportunities for students through full-time student teaching, practicum placements, observations, and part-time employment.
Position Summary
Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistants work in classrooms as part of a consistent teaching team. Responsibilities include assisting the Lead Teacher with curriculum planning, maintaining licensing and accreditation standards, creating a respectful and high-quality environment, caregiving routines, supervising children indoors and outdoors, and light housekeeping such as serving or cleaning after meals.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; or demonstrated competencies necessary to perform the work.
Preferred Qualifications
An Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or related field, with 6 months experience in a licensed childcare setting; or a high school diploma with 2 years experience in a licensed childcare setting.
Alternate Option
If no applicants meet the required competencies, management may consider other applicants. Salary will be based on competencies, equity, budget, and market considerations.

Recruitment Range: $31,200 – $34,423
