Description:

Provides nurturing and support to at-risk children whose mothers are receiving services from House of Mercy. Implements developmentally appropriate practices that enhance the children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive functioning consistent with NAEYC and Early Head Start Performance Standards. Provides practical instruction on basic parenting and serves as their coach, role model, and mentor for child-related issues.

What you'll do:
  • Provide adequate supervision to children at all times indoors and outdoors.
  • Follow all health and safety requirements consistent with DHS licensing and best practices outlined in Caring for our Children National Health and Safety standards.
  • Meet the basic needs of children through respectful daily routines that consider each child's developmental and cultural needs.
  • Promote healthy eating and mealtime practices in line with CACFP guidelines and recommendations.
  • Create and implement weekly lesson plans, activities, and projects to promote children's learning and development using the center-endorsed curriculum.
  • Screen and assess the developmental level of assigned children both formally and informally, maintaining confidentiality standards.
  • Engage families through newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, family events, and ongoing communication.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development by attending department and organization meetings and training sessions through EcQuip, Early Head Start, DHS, and other approved offerings, totaling 20 hours annually.
What you'll need:
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent (12 ECE or related credits), or an associate's or bachelor's degree in ECE or related field.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within three months of hire (HeartSaver with adult module or Infant & Child modules preferred).
  • Mandatory Child and Adult Abuse Reporter training to be completed within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be 18 years or older and meet all HHS hiring requirements.
  • Prior experience in an early childhood center preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and early childhood education.
  • Ability to work with children and families experiencing special circumstances (e.g., homelessness, substance use, trauma).
  • Ability to move and react quickly, and to get up and down from the floor.
  • Ability to use a computer and Google Platform.
