Summary

The Early Childhood Specialist participates actively in the life of the center(s), forwarding best practices and innovations to support student learning and staff professional development.

Purpose of Position

Children grow and learn more quickly during these first five years than at any other time in life. This is why our work to support each child's learning at home and after transitioning to Kindergarten is so important. It takes all of us working together to lay the foundation for children’s future success.

Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Implementation and in collaboration with the Center Managers, the ECS supports assigned center(s), ensuring services are developmentally appropriate and individualized. The ECS acts as a role model, provides resources, supports professional development, and liaises with families, schools, and the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Implementation
  • Provides on-site consultation to Center Manager, Family Support Advocates, parents, and staff regarding early education services.
  • Works with teams to improve teaching practices and capacity to work with parents.
  • Maintains knowledge of curricula and assessment tools like Creative Curriculum, CLASS, Teaching Strategies Gold, ASQ/ASQ: SE, Second Step, and The Pyramid Model.
  • Conducts classroom observations, models best practices, and coaches staff.
  • Sources, tracks, and maintains educational resources.
  • Reviews lesson plans, provides feedback, and monitors documentation and assessments.
  • Collaborates with community organizations and participates in eligibility and tracking meetings.
  • Monitors referral processes and tracks children's developmental and health needs.
Staff Engagement & Development
  • Promotes a learning culture and reflective practice among staff.
  • Supports goal setting, feedback, and professional development activities.
Operational Management
  • Participates in meetings, completes reports, and uses data to inform decisions.
  • Maintains reliability in observation tools and communicates effectively with teams.
  • Coordinates projects and updates policies and procedures.
Other Duties

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or related field, with three years of experience in inclusive early education. A degree in Special Education is preferred.

  • Knowledge of early childhood development, curriculum, and classroom management.
  • Ability to operate a computer and travel to centers.
Physical Job Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, stoop, reach, push/pull, lift children, and work indoors and outdoors.
