Summary

The Early Childhood Specialist actively participates in the life of the center(s), promoting best practices and innovations to support student learning and staff professional development.

Purpose of Position

Children grow and learn more rapidly during these first five years than at any other time in life. Our work supports each child's learning at home and after transitioning to Kindergarten, laying the foundation for future success.

Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Implementation and in collaboration with Center Managers, the ECS supports assigned centers ensuring services are developmentally appropriate and individualized. The ECS acts as a role model, provides resources, supports professional development, and liaises with families, schools, and community groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Implementation

  • Provides consultation and support to Center Managers, Family Support Advocates, parents, and staff regarding early education services.
  • Works with teams to improve teaching practices and parental engagement.
  • Maintains knowledge of curriculum models and assessment tools like Creative Curriculum, CLASS, Teaching Strategies Gold, ASQ/SE, Second Step, and The Pyramid Model.
  • Conducts classroom observations, models and coaches staff, reviews lesson plans, and monitors documentation.
  • Supports curriculum resources, tracks educational materials, and ensures compliance with documentation requirements.
  • Collaborates with community organizations to include children with disabilities and special needs, and monitors referral processes.
  • Provides support for consistency across sites and seeks out community resources to enhance services.

Staff Engagement & Development

  • Fosters a learning culture, collaborates on goal setting, and provides feedback for improvement.
  • Participates in planning and delivering training for staff and families.

Operational Management

  • Participates in meetings, completes reports, and uses data to inform decisions.
  • Maintains reliability in observation tools, communicates effectively, and collaborates on projects and policy updates.

Other Duties

Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or related field, with three years of experience in inclusive early education. A degree in Special Education is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective communication, time management, relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of child development, curriculum implementation, and classroom management.
  • Ability to operate a computer and travel to centers.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands, climb stairs, stoop, reach, lift children, and work indoors and outdoors.
