Job summary

Michigan’s Children is seeking an Early Childhood & Policy and Program Associate to advance state-level public policy for children and families in Michigan. The role emphasizes researching early childhood issues from prenatal to early education, building partnerships, and supporting advocacy through events and programs.

You will monitor legislation, synthesize data, and communicate findings to policymakers, partners, and the public, all while applying an equity lens to reach the most vulnerable

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in research, writing and analyzing data.
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in public policy, social science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience or familiarity with early childhood issues is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor policy and legislation affecting children and families at the state level.
  • Research early childhood policy in other states to gather ideas for Michigan.
  • Collect, evaluate and synthesize information to create timely reports and briefs for policymakers and the public.
  • Build partnerships with other nonprofits and support advocacy from grass roots to grass tops.
  • Speak to legislators in hearings and meetings to present ideas and facilitate discussions.
  • Use an equity lens to ensure work centers on vulnerable, marginalized kids.
  • Assist with programs such as podcasts, webinars and forums.
