Job summary

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is seeking a Cook to prepare homemade meals for infants, toddlers, preschool children, and their families in accordance with Federal, State, and Tribal regulations.

Under the Education and Disabilities Supervisor, you will develop menus, coordinate with a Registered Dietician, oversee meal service, maintain records, and ensure a clean, safe kitchen environment while participating in events and classroom nutrition activities.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience: One year of food service preferred.
• Certification/License: Serve Safe certificate within one year; First Aid and CPR within one year; valid driver’s license and insurability.
• Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.
• Knowledge of nutrition, safety standards for food preparation, and ability to operate kitchen equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutritionally balanced meals to infants, toddlers, preschoolers, staff and families.
• Develop menus including accommodations for allergies and special needs.
• Maintain records for meal attendance, costs, and menus; prepare monthly reports.
• Assist in family-style meals and supervise meal service for young children.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and eating areas; perform light janitorial tasks.
• Shops for groceries, orders supplies, and maintains FIFO inventory.
• Coordinate with Registered Dietician and Health Coordinator on menus and nutrition activities.
