Job summary

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy Child Development Center in New London, CT is hiring a Child Care Assistant. The role supports early childhood education, helps implement age-appropriate activities, and ensures the safety and well-being of children during daily routines.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, English proficiency, and at least one year of experience with children. The position is intermittent/part-time, paying $20.32 per hour, with agency benefits available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
• One year of general experience working with children.
• Must lift up to 45 pounds and work indoors/outdoors.
• Able to pass Tier 1 background investigation and renew every 5 years.
• Able to pass Civilian Medical Clearance every two years for childcare positions.
• Preferred: two years of education beyond high school in related fields or a vocational childcare certificate.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute early childhood activities promoting development.
• Assist in curriculum development with staff and director.
• Maintain safe, organized indoor and outdoor activity areas.
• Monitor and supervise children during daily routines and meals.
• Prepare and serve snacks/meals as applicable.
• Perform routine caregiving tasks and complete daily reports.
• Other duties as assigned.
