Job summary

St. Anne’s Early Learning in Spokane, WA is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher with daily activities, learning experiences, and children’s wellbeing in our care.

The role emphasizes a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children from 1 month to 6 years. Responsibilities include implementing age-appropriate activities, supervising children, observing progress, and communicating with families.

Qualifications

• Must be at least eighteen years old and have knowledge of child development.
• Experience in childcare or preschool is preferred but not required.
• DCYF background check and MERIT registration required; 30 hours STARS training within 6 months if not substituted.
• Food Handler’s Certification, BBP, First Aid and CPR required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate activities and curriculum.
• Lead small group activities or one-on-one sessions to support children’s learning.
• Set up and cleanup activities; keep the classroom organized and conducive to learning.
• Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment where children feel safe and valued.
• Support behavior guidance and conflict resolution; supervise children at all times.
• Observe and document children’s progress; assist in tracking development.
• Encourage participation in daily routines such as meals, cleanup, and nap time.
• Communicate with families about progress and concerns; participate in conferences as needed.
• Collaborate with Lead Teacher and staff to create a cohesive classroom environment.
