Early Childhood Assistant Teacher (Education)

The YMCA child care program is hiring fun, energetic individuals who love working with children and families! We offer full-time and part-time, year-round positions from 2:00-6:00 and 9:00-6:00, Monday through Friday.

Requirements:

• Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 or Wisconsin HFS 46 Teacher qualifications, including yearly in-service requirements.
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• A commitment to working with children and families in a developmental setting.
• Experience working with infants to age 5 in a diverse group setting.

Work hours are Monday-Friday, with shifts from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, depending on location needs and with flexibility.

The salary starts at $16.00/hour, with consideration of experience and background. The compensation includes additional benefits and earned time off based on full-time or part-time status.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Program Director, support the teaching staff in implementing childcare programs, providing high-quality services aligned with YMCA values: Equity, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Caring.

Essential Functions:

• Implement daily plans and activities.
• Maintain a positive classroom environment.
• Supervise and engage with children.
• Maintain the program site and equipment.
• Communicate with parents and assist with conferences.
• Complete observations and evaluations.
• Provide behavioral guidance.
• Maintain meal and snack standards (CACFP, licensing).
• Attend meetings and trainings.

Relationships:

Interact regularly with children, parents, staff, and volunteers, supporting a diverse community.

Qualifications:

• Meet Minnesota DHS Rule 3 or Wisconsin HFS 46 Assistant Teacher qualifications.
• Minimum age of 18.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to working with children and diverse backgrounds.

Work Conditions:

• Perform physical activities, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• React calmly in hazardous situations.
• Assist children with hygiene, medical needs, toileting, and transportation.
• Work in environments with potential exposure to bodily fluids and verbal outbursts.
• Travel between branches as needed.
• Flexible hours to meet site needs.
