The successful candidate must have a strong academic record, solid understanding of civil and geotechnical engineering fundamentals, and a desire to work on a variety of exciting and challenging projects, both in the office and in the field. Assignments will span a wide variety of infrastructure, real estate/building development, and energy projects. Previous work experience is preferred but not required.

Our close-knit culture here at GZA will help you to grow professionally while working on challenging, high-profile projects. You will be mentored by seasoned professionals, who will in turn look to you to share your technical knowledge and ideas. Our success relies on this collaborative environment and your growth. For candidates starting with little to no experience, you will work primarily on a variety of field assignments that support our geotechnical group, with periodic in-office duties that includes preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, evaluating data and performing engineering analyses, preparing technical reports, and implementing new technology. More experienced candidates may work primarily on in-office tasks, such as preparing designs and written engineering reports, and assisting GZA project managers and principals with management tasks.

Primary Responsibilities (depending on experience):
  • Perform field tasks and assist with the technical execution of projects.
  • Oversee and log subsurface exploration and in-situ testing programs to evaluate soil and bedrock conditions in connection with foundation design & construction projects.
  • Perform on-site construction oversight and inspections for earthwork projects, including in-place density testing of compacted soils using a Troxler nuclear moisture-density gauge.
  • Perform field construction observation during installation and testing of shallow and deep foundations, underpinning, and other tasks related to underground construction and ground management for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Evaluate field data and performing engineering analyses/calculations, such as slope stability, bearing capacity, settlement, lateral pile analyses, and design/evaluation of earth support and underpinning systems (experience with software such as SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, LPile, and Plaxis is a plus)
  • Writing drafts of field and engineering reports, technical specifications, and other technical documents
  • Prepare construction cost/quantity estimates
  • Assist with submittal reviews and requests for information during construction
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with prime contractors, sub-contractors, clients, and other project team members.
Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering with geotechnical focus. Master's degree with geotechnical focus is preferred
  • 0 to 5+ years of professional work experience
  • Effective communication, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work locally and regionally. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and have a consistent means of transportation to/from project sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather and lift and use field equipment required to perform job functions

The base salary for this position may range between $69,000 and $90,000. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including location, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
