Job summary

The Meriden Board of Education is seeking an E1/E2 Electrician Maintainer to install, inspect, and maintain electrical power, lighting, and control systems across district facilities and grounds.

Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, you will troubleshoot equipment, ensure NEC compliance, and respond to emergencies after hours to keep school operations safe.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• E1 preferred, or E2 CT Electrical License.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Knowledge of NEC and local codes.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled E1/E2 Electrician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of electrical circuits, lighting, distribution panels, and other related electrical equipment throughout the district school facilities and grounds.

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Electrician Maintainer is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical power, lighting, and control systems throughout all district facilities and grounds. The position ensures that all district electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), all state and local municipal codes, and safety standards, to maintain an optimal working and learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Electrical Installations and upgrades: Install, connect, and test electrical wiring, outlets, switches, breakers, indoor /outdoor lighting fixtures, and power distribution systems.
• System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Diagnose, repair, and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on electrical distribution systems, motors, pumps, and facility controls to ensure continuous and efficient operation.
• Low-Voltage System Support: Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting integrated low-voltage institutional systems, including fire alarm panels, emergency lighting, intercoms, and security access controls.
• Code Compliance: Perform all repairs and installations in strict adherence to the National Electrical Code (NEC), and all Connecticut and Municipal codes and regulations.
• Safety & Hazard Mitigation: Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, isolate electrical hazards, and maintain a safe work zone near students, staff, and visitors during school hours
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly to after-hours, weekend, or weather-related emergency calls regarding power outages, electrical faults, or safety-related issues across the school properties.
• Work Order System: Review assigned work orders, document completed repairs, estimate material costs, and maintain an updated inventory of replacement parts.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• E1 preferred, or E2 CT Electrical License
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems and equipment
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
• Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve
• Ability to work independent or as part of a team
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work during inclement weather and assist the maintenance team during snow removal
