Job summary

Matlen Silver invites an experienced Java developer to join our E-Rates technology group supporting a high-performance real-time trading platform. You’ll work with traders and quants to modernize systems and connect to 40+ exchanges, prioritizing low latency and robust design.

We seek 5–7 years of core Java experience, strong multi-threading and messaging skills, and a collaborative hybrid work approach. Knowledge of FIX/FpML and market APIs is a plus.

Qualifications

• Five to seven years of hands-on core Java experience with Java 8+.
• Front-office facing experience with Traders in an agile environment.
• Experience with multi-threading and messaging middleware (JMS, MQ, Solace, Tibco RV).
• Familiar with FIX / FpML and market venue APIs.
• Strong analytical and engineering background with performance focus.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to platform modernization and real-time trading capabilities.
• Develop extensible modules for order execution, RFQ/ RFM workflows.
• Integrate with market data and venue APIs (Bloomberg, CME, Nasdaq, etc.).
• Refactor legacy code to improve latency, scalability, and maintainability.

Job description

E-Rates technology group is responsible for designing and supporting a large high performance real-time trading platform. The e-Trading platform supports marketdata, trading, orders, and real-time algos across multiple business lines including Rates, MBS, and Emerging Markets. Our platform connects to 40+ exchanges, serves over 2000+ clients internally and externally. As an E-Trading software developer, you'll have an opportunity to work closely with technology-focused engineers, quantitative analysts, and traders to modernize and build upon an existing trading platform using a mixture of existing and new technology frameworks.

The key initiatives funded for the next few years include Platform modernization, Global Markets growth, connectivity to new trading venues, Central Risk Book (algos to internalize trading flow), and stability improvements.

• Clear articulate communication skills - We collaborate often and look for developers that are able to break problems down analytically and explain the pros/cons of why and alternatives.
• Demonstrated experience working in a front-office facing role, interacting with Traders.
• Experienced with agile and modern software development/DevOps practices. Ability to describe previous projects they've participated in using iterative development, CI/CD, automated testing and why those disciplines are useful and important.
• Five to Seven years of hands‑on core Java experience. Core Java 8 or higher programming language experience is a must‑have. if you have experience with both Java and C# it is a big plus
• Solid analytical skills and strong technical or engineering background.
• Desire and a positive attitude to work in a front-office development and to respond to and address production situations promptly.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented setting. We offer a Hybrid working style.
• Java: strong in multi-threading programming and messaging middleware (such as publish/subscribe, JMS, MQ, Solace, Tibco RV or similar technologies).
• Experience refactoring existing code and working on performance or design issues
• Eagerness to design extensible modules and ensure that code is cleanly written, testable and maintainable by others
• Skillsets - Linux, Windows, Core Java, Spring Framework, Ansible, Jenkins, Git/Bitbucket, Artifactory, Unit testing
• Experienced with agile and modern software development/DevOps practices. Ability to describe previous projects they've participated in using iterative development, continuous deployment, CI/CD, automated testing and why those disciplines are useful and important.
• Developing frameworks and core services to enable real-time order execution, auto-quoting, RFQ negotiation
• Experience with the Request For Quote (RFQ), Request for Market (RFM), Request for Trade (RFT) negotiation workflow
• Strong experience with real-time trading system design principles
