Job summary

Maple Heights High School, part of Maple Heights City Schools, seeks an Esports Advisor to launch and lead its new esports program. This role will recruit students, build program culture, and guide teams to become a recognized presence in the esports community.

The advisor will recruit, develop students' skills, and promote opportunities in gaming, technology, communication, and digital citizenship, while aligning with district policies.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid Ohio PAP or willingness to obtain.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of esports, competitive gaming strategies, and team dynamics.
  • Ability to engage and support diverse learners.
  • Current safety certifications or willingness to obtain.

Esports Advisor

Location: Maple Heights High School

Reports To: Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities

POSITION SUMMARY:

Maple Heights High School is excited to launch a new Esports program and is seeking a motivated andknowledgeable Esports Coach/Advisor to lead its development. This individual will introduce students to the world of competitive gaming, build program structure/culture, and guide teams as they grow into astrong, reputable presence in the esports community. The advisor wil play a vital role in recruiting students, developing their skills, and promoting opportunities in gaming, technology, communication, and digital citizenship.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Program Development & Growth:
  • Establish the district's inaugural esports program and create a vision for its long-term success.
  • Recruit student participants, promote the program within the school, and increase awareness of esports opportunities and career pathways.
  • Build a structured and inclusive team environment that reflects discipline, integrity, sportsmanship, and Mustang Pride.
Coaching &Skill Development:
  • Coach competitive teams in approved game titles.
  • Design practice plans, teach game fundamentals, develop team strategies, and analyze gameplay to help students improve individually and colectively.

Teach communication, teamwork, resilience, and leadership through the lens of esports.

Student Support & Academic Success:
  • Serve a s a mentor and positive role model.
  • Promote responsible gaming habits and digital etiquette.
  • Monitor academic progress and ensure students m e e teligibility requirements.
  • Support students of diverse backgrounds and foster an encouraging, student-centered environment.
Program Operations &Communication:
  • Coordinate practice schedules, matchregistration/participation, and match lineups.
  • Maintain attendance records, equipment inventories, and compliance with district policies.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty/staff, and administration.
  • Coordinate transportation and supervision for in-person competitions, fi applicable.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment, lab space, and gaming accounts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Ohio Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of esports, competitive gaming strategies, and team dynamics. Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build meaningful connections with high school students and support diverse learners.
  • Current safety certifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of all required background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Teaching credential and interest in a teaching or instructional aide position within the district (if available).
  • Previous esports, coaching, or advising experience.
  • Experience developing or expanding extracurricular programs.
  • Familiarity with gaming hardware, team communication tools, and esports event management.
