Job summary

Vela Insurance Services, a Berkley Company, seeks an Underwriting Manager to lead our team across Professional Liability, Specialty Casualty, and Construction segments. You will guide underwriting excellence, support profitable growth, strengthen broker relationships, and reinforce underwriting strategies while championing our sales culture.

Manage the aligned team and drive results. You will mentor and coach team members, refine guidelines, and collaborate on talent sourcing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
• Understanding of the E&S competitive marketplace.
• Technical expertise in Manufacturing and Products.
• Willingness to lead and drive change.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Professional designations preferred: CPCU, CRIS, ASLI, AU.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Broker Specialists and Renewal Underwriters within Professional Liability, Specialty Casualty and Construction.
• Drive premium, rate and profitability goals for the team.
• Refine and update Underwriting Guidelines.
• Train, coach and develop team members.
• Participate in sourcing, interviewing and hiring of new team members.
• Drive broker engagement strategies for new business growth and renewal retention.
• Apply analytics to distribution management.
• Maintain own book of business.
