Job summary

Saulsbury Industries is seeking a cost estimator to own and prepare bids for data center construction projects. You will assess risks, identify opportunities, and shape a winning bid strategy. This role requires electrical/industrial estimating experience and strong collaboration with the team.

The position involves coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors, maintaining bid documents, and establishing project schedules. Occasional travel and clear communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 1+ year data center electrical/estimating experience; 3+ years industrial electrical experience.
• Competitive bid experience on data center or petrochemical/heavy industrial facilities.
• Electrical & instrumentation field experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
• Ability to conceptualize estimates with incomplete information.
• Strong knowledge of construction industry practices and standards.
• Familiarity with estimating software programs.
• Occasional travel required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Professional, ethical, and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates based on scope, drawings, specs to quantify man-hours, materials, and subcontractors.
• Solicit quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and manufacturers.
• Distribute and maintain bid documents.
• Establish construction schedules.
• Identify special requirements for weather protection, cranes, hoists, temporary facilities and indirect costs.
• Ensure bid forms are completed correctly.
• Review labor costs and licensing requirements.
• Lead bid review meetings with management to finalize bid strategy.
• Coordinate with team during bid process on large proposals.

General Information/Job Summary

Prepare and take ownership for cost estimating of bids and project proposals for data center construction/electrical. The right candidate can identify risk, opportunities, and maintain a winning strategy.

Responsibilities/Competencies

• Prepare detailed estimates in accordance with the scope of work, data center blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare quantity take-offs, determining manpower, equipment requirements, material items and subcontractors
• Solicit quotes from material and equipment suppliers, subcontractors, and specified manufacturers
• Distributes and maintains control of bid documents
• Establish construction schedules
• Identifies special requirements for weather protection, cranes, hoists, temporary facilities and services or any/all other indirect cost associated with projects
• Ensure that all bid forms are completed and properly executed
• Reviews labor costs and applicable licensing requirements,
• Schedules and conducts bid review meeting with the Division Manager, Estimating Manager, and/or business line management to finalize bid, markup and bid strategies
• Coordinate with other employees during bid process on large proposals

Requirements

• 1 or more years experience with data center electrical and instrumentation estimating / 3 or more years of industrial electrical experience.
• Competitive bid experience with data center projects or in petro-chemical, gas processing, refining and other heavy industrial facilities. The ideal candidate will have a mix of both.
• Electrical and Instrumentation field experience highly preferred
• Advanced knowledge or estimating strategies and techniques
• Ability to conceptualize estimates without complete information
• Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities
• Knowledge of estimating software programs
• Occasional travel required
• Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
