Job summary

Saulsbury Industries in Texas is seeking a cost estimator to own the bid preparation for data center projects. You will prepare detailed estimates, identify risks, and shape a winning strategy for proposals.

The role requires 1+ years of mechanical estimating experience in EPC/data centers or 3–5 years in oil and gas with bid experience. MC2 familiarity is a plus, and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 1+ years' experience with mechanical estimating for EPC, data centers, or 3–5 years in Oil & Gas and data centers.
• Proficiency with estimating software; MC2 a plus.
• Experience with bidding in petrochemical, power, and heavy industrial facilities.
• Field construction experience preferred.
• Knowledge of estimating best practices and industry standards.

Responsibilities

General Information/Job Summary

Prepare and take ownership for cost estimating of bids data center project proposals. The right candidate will identify risk, opportunities, and maintain a winning strategy.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates in accordance with the scope of work, data center mechanical blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare quantity take-offs, for foundations, structural steel, pipe, and process equipment.
• Apply work hour unit rates for each item in the estimate to generate the overall direct work hours.
• Understand the construction equipment requirements.
• Understand the temporary facilities requirement and field non-manual staffing requirements.
• Assist in the solicitation of quotes from material and equipment suppliers, subcontractors, and specified manufacturers.
• Distribute and maintain control of bid documents.
• Identify special Client or project requirements for weather protection, cranes, hoists, HES requirements and services.
• Analyze project location and productivity associated with the location.
• Reviews labor costs and applicable licensing requirements.
• Ensure that all bid forms are completed and properly executed.
• Facilitate bid review meetings with Business Unit Management, estimating group, and/or business line management to finalize bid.
• Coordinate with other departments during the bid process on proposals.

Job Qualifications

• 1 or more years' experience with mechanical estimating for EPC, data centers, or 3-5 years of a mix of Oil and Gas industry experience & data centers.
• Working knowledge of estimating software; MC2 a plus
• Competitive bid experience in petro-chemical, power, gas processing, refining and other heavy industrial facilities.
• Construction field experience highly preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
• Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities.
• Knowledge of estimating Best Practices.
• Occasional travel required.
• Follow safety regulations while on jobsite visits including the wearing of proper attire, safety gear, protective hat, safety glasses and shoes as required.
• Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Professional, ethical, and team player willing to grow with the company.
• Overtime may be required to meet work demands.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, or sit 1/3 to 2/3's of the scheduled work shift
• Office environment - indoor with low to moderate levels of noise
• Read engineering blueprints and reduced size black and white drawings, specifications, fine print, reports, schedules, estimates and other documents in either hard copy or on computer monitor.
• Required on occasion to observe construction progress outdoors by walking or driving to or on the site over rough or uneven terrain, which may be dusty, muddy, wet and noisy.
