Job summary

Orange County Government seeks a Temporary Convenience Center Operator to screen incoming materials, monitor containers, and assist the public at the Chapel Hill solid waste site. This role requires basic grounds upkeep and safety adherence.

Under supervision, you will operate equipment, enforce materials guidelines, maintain records, and provide information to residents. Work hours vary weekly with weekend shifts; driver’s license required; high school diploma or GED accepted.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Open/close waste and recycling center and assist with heavy waste disposal using skid steer or bobcat.
• Monitor loads for unacceptable or banned materials and direct patrons to correct containers.
• Operate compactors for waste, recyclables and bulky materials.
• Ensure containers are exchanged when full and maintain grounds and buildings.
