Smithville School District is seeking qualified substitutes for teachers and instructional assistants for the 2026-2027 school year.

Substitutes supervise students and support learning in a dynamic classroom setting, following lesson plans and maintaining FERPA confidentiality.

Applicants must have 36 college credits, hold a valid Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate, and complete transcripts for DESE; background checks are required.

Qualifications

• 36 college credits from an accredited college/university.
• Valid Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate.
• Must pass background check and transcript submission to DESE.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
• Implement effective lessons in the absences of the regular instructor.
• Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
• Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
• Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm, and tornado warning procedures.
• Review notes for the day, take attendance, lunch count and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
• Maintain confidentiality as defined by FERPA.
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
• Remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
• Leave detailed notes for the teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
• Adhere to all the policies, procedures and regulations of the building and district.
